Scholarship Recipient, Tour de Shore Update
June 02, 2007, 08:19:44 AM by Susan

Dear Everyone,

So much has been going on during the last month as we move forward trying to achieve the goals of The Timothy Pauxtis Foundation.

First I am thrilled to let everyone know that our “Hoops for Health” fundraiser has completely exceeded our expectations. Our total amount raised was over $12,000! It is unbelievable that a small elementary school could raise so much money. “Hoops for Health” was our jump-start fundraiser for The Timothy Pauxtis Memorial Scholarship Fund. The money will grow over the years and enable us to present a scholarship for many years to come. Once again, thank you to our Middletown Village Elementary School community for generously supporting us.

The first Timothy Pauxtis Memorial Scholarship for $1,000 was presented on May 31 at Middletown High School South. The scholarship was presented to a student who is pursuing nursing as a career. We want to encourage the noble profession of nursing. As I read that night, when presenting the scholarship “During Timmy’s treatments, we became aware of the special position that nurses hold in the care of children being treated for cancer. Nurse practitioners and nurses are an integral part of a neuro-oncology team that cares for children. Nurses helped us through long hospital stays. Nurses helped us through hospice care. We were grateful to have a close friend who as an RN helped us to lovingly care for Timmy at home each day.” Timmy’s scholarship was presented to a wonderful young woman, Andrea Bonfiglio, who will be studying nursing at Pennsylvania State University. Congratulations Andrea!

The “Tour de Shore” is just about four months away. We are actively pursuing sponsors to ensure the success of this event. We have reached out to dozens of companies, pharmaceuticals and local businesses for their support. If anyone would like to help sponsor this event, please let us know. You can contact us at Jay.Pauxtis@timothypauxtisfoundation.org or call (732) 233-9841. We would be happy to speak with you or mail you a sponsor letter. Also, we are looking for donations of items that can be added to goodie bags which will be given out to participants. Items like energy bars, snacks, toothpaste, soaps, etc. in any quantity are needed.

The “Tour de Shore” website is now open for registration. Please take a look and consider coming to Sandy Hook, NJ on October 7th to ride in the “Tour de Shore”. Consider being a fundraiser…our website www.tourdeshore.org and “Active Giving” enables you to set up your own fundraising page. It makes fundraising very easy. It sends emails for you and allows people to donate on-line.

I hope that everyone will continue to check Timmy’s Foundation website. It is my hope that we can do great things to raise awareness of pediatric brain tumors. The awareness is very important…but so is the money. They say that the first year is the hardest when putting together an event. I will tell you that this is very true. We will learn so much this year. I am sure both good and bad. Our family is driven by the life of a beautiful, courageous boy who we miss so much. It is our hope that together we can make a difference in the lives of all children battling brain tumors.

Thank you for continuing to be there for us.

With Hope,
Susan
