What is the Tour de Shore?
The Tour de Shore is a bicycle ride along the Jersey Shore. The bicycle ride will actually be comprised of two cycling events. One event, “Family Fun” will take place in the Fort Hancock area of Sandy Hook in Gateway National Park, New Jersey. The Family Fun ride will start and end at a field in the northern end of the park allowing families with young children, and other riders, to enjoy a leisurely, meandering bicycle ride along the roads of historic Fort Hancock. The second event, the “Challenge Ride” is for the more stout of heart. The Challenge Ride is a bicycle ride that will cover about twenty miles of the Jersey Shore. The actual route is still being planned.
The Tour de Shore is still in its early planning stages. This Spring, The Timothy Pauxtis Foundation will be launching a website devoted entirely to The 2007 Tour de Shore. Until then, you can find a great deal of information about this exciting event on this page. Slated for Fall 2007, The Tour de Shore will be the Foundation's largest event to date. Please check back often for updates!

Ride 1: Family Fun Bicycle Ride (3 miles)
The Sandy Hook unit of the Gateway National Park will be home to the 2007 Tour de Shore Family Fun Bicycle Ride. The bicycle riders will meet at the northern end of the park inside old Fort Hancock at what is officially called “field 102”. However, for the day of the Tour de Shore, Field 102 will be named Timmy Town USA. This area of Sandy Hook, inside Fort Hancock is an area with old buildings, and historic areas once used for coastal defense.
For those familiar with Sandy Hook, Timmy Town is about 500 feet east of the large Civil War era cannon overlooking Sandy Hook Bay.
The cycling event will be mapped out by the National Park Service over the coming weeks. The plan is to have several cycling “loops” of different distances to allow the bicycle riders to pick different routes, and enjoy some sightseeing.

About Fort Hancock
Fort Hancock is a national historic area. As a guest of the park, please enjoy the site; respect it, so that future generations too can enjoy it.
About Sandy Hook
The Gateway National Park has a “carry it in, carry it out” policy. Simply put, there are no garbage cans. Wrappers, empty drink containers must be taken away as you leave the park.
Sandy Hook is home to many species of birds – some call it home, some are migratory. If you encounter an area that is roped off, it is just the Park Rangers helping to watch out for our fair feathered friends.

Ride 2: Challenge Ride (18 miles)
TThe Challenge Ride is a bicycle ride that will cover about twenty miles of the Jersey Shore. The actual route is still being planned.
